Kennedy’s new contact

Earlier today Ole Miss athletics director Ross Bjork told us he was close to an agreement with basketball coach Andy Kennedy.

Just minutes ago the school made it official. The new deal raises Kennedy’s salary half a million to $1.8 per year. He is now under contract for four years, the maximum allowed by state law.

The Rebels followed an embarrassing loss at Mississippi State with six straight wins that included the SEC tournament championship and a second-round NCAA win over Wisconsin, one of the Big 10’s top teams this season.

Ole Miss finished 27-9, tying a school record for single-season wins.

The season had a very different feel after that MSU loss, and Kennedy answered some tough questions, referred others to Bjork.

Flamboyant guard Marshall Henderson was a central figure on this team. He has said he’ll return for a senior season. Big guys Reggie Buckner and Murphy Holloway will have to be replaced, and so will guard Nick Williams.

I agree, Mr Kennedy does merit a new contract. He led the Rebels to a good season and NCAA Tournament play. JB
