After seeing the replay of Anthony Alford’s hit on Mark Dodson in the final spring scrimmage on Saturday, the word “concussion” immediately came to mind.
Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze felt the same way after the scrimmage and described the injury with concussion-type symptoms. He was careful not to call it a concussion until they got a closer look at Dodson.
Since that time Dodson’s injury has been classed as a “mild” concussion. With spring drills being finished he’s not really missing anything right now.
Presently, conditioning workouts are “voluntary,” and Dodson has been cleared to participate if he chooses.
Dodson (5-10, 193) is one of two freshman members of the signing class who enrolled early and went through spring drills. Tight end Christian Morgan got some snaps but injured a knee near the end of drills and is recovering. He is expected to be ready for August camp.
I thought Dodson was one of the more impressive players in the spring, showing a nice blend of speed and power. He’ll challenge for playing time.
