Amid their struggles the Rebels are still in the conversation to serve as a host according to Kendall Rogers of Perfect Game. See the second bullet point.
At the mid-way point of SEC play Vanderbilt and LSU appear to be locks to host, perhaps as national seeds.
Since 2008 the trend has been for the league to have three regional host sites or fewer. Only once in the last five years has the league had more than three. That was 2010 when Arkansas, Auburn, Florida and South Carolina hosted.
For Ole Miss, the host conversation assumes notable improvement and some big wins along the way.
Behind Vanderbilt and LSU, Arkansas is 9-6 in the league. Florida, South Carolina, Kentucky, MSU, Alabama and Ole Miss are all either 8-7 or 7-8.
So the improve and host theory applies to seven other teams. Four of them are a game behind Arkansas. Two more are two games behind.
Here are host sites in the SEC since Ole Miss was a part of a record five host sites in 2004:
LSU, South Carolina and Florida in 2012
South Carolina, Florida and Vanderbilt in 2011
Arkansas, Auburn, Florida and South Carolina in 2010
LSU, Florida and Ole Miss in 2009
Georgia and LSU in 2008
Arkansas, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Vanderbilt in 2007
Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Ole Miss in 2006
Florida, LSU, Ole Miss and Tennessee in 2005
Arkansas, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss and South Carolina in 2004
