Final: Kentucky 3, Ole Miss 2

Ole Miss got nothing done for most of the game against Kentucky left-hander A.J. Reed — the first of three left-handers the Rebels will face in this series — then scratched out two runs to take a 2-1 lead after seven innings.

The Rebels were down to counting outs and feeling pretty good about turning it over to the bullpen, but the bullpen blew a lead after the seventh inning for the first time this season. Ole Miss had been 24-0 when leading after the seventh.

Tanner Mathis talks about the loss here:

The Rebels had two runs on seven hits. Andrew Mistone was the only multiple hitter. He singled and doubled.

The last best chance to regain the lead for Ole Miss was in the eighth when Mistone doubled with two outs, but Sikes Orvis, pinch-hitting, struck out swinging.

Trying to rally in the ninth the Rebels sent up freshmen Christian Helsel and Holt Perdzock then junior college transfer Lance Wilson who went into the game hitting .103.

Perdzock reached on an infield hit, but the game end on Mathis fly ball in right field foul territory.

Game 2 is tomorrow at 6:30.
