Ole Miss men’s tennis will host an NCAA Regional

For the 11th time in the history of the program and the second year in a row, the Ole Miss men’s tennis team will host the NCAA first and second rounds at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center May 10-11.   The Rebels are the No. 6 seed in the NCAA 64-team bracket announced Tuesday and will face Lehigh University in the first round.

Also coming to Oxford for the four-team regional is Memphis and BYU.  The Rebels (15-8) will play Lehigh at 12 p.m. Friday, May 10 followed by Memphis and BYU not before 3 p.m.  The winners will meet Saturday at 2 p.m. for the right to advance to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen in Champaign, Ill.

When Pat Summitt stepped down as coach of the Tennessee Lady Vols with early onset dementia she signed a 1-year contract to become head coach emeritus. She’s about to sign a new deal.

Pittsburgh coach Paul Chryst, whose team lost to Ole Miss in January in the BBVA Compass Bowl, has dismissed two players. Those two facts are probably unrelated. …

Wisconsin-Green Bay is investigating claims of abuse against its basketball coach made by two former players. One current player defends the coach in this ESPN account …

New UCLA basketball coach Steve Alford is haggling with his former school, New Mexico, over the terms of his contract buyout. Alford (no relation) says he’ll pay $200,000. The school wants $1 million. …

It’s an early hoops meeting next year for Georgia-Georgia Tech.
