Saturday Morning Update

A few scheduling items here.

I will not be at Swayze Field today, but Brad Locke will and will have live updates on Twitter @bradlocke.

Rain is expected to move out of the area today, so they should get to play. First pitch is at 3. They will play 8 1-2 innings and then nine.

The Bobby Wahl situation presents a different and unfortunate turn for Ole Miss. It’s unclear how he might be used this weekend if at all.

The first inning wasn’t very taxing for him yesterday, but pitchers are handled differently. Before we scattered last night Mike Bianco said through his media relations director that he would visit with Wahl today and see how he felt but that Wahl starting today was not likely.

It’s possible Wahl could be used in some other role Sunday, but that would risk upsetting his schedule and routine with an early week next week. The final regular season series at LSU will begin on Thursday.

I don’t have a pitch count on Wahl from last night, but he faced four batters in the top of the first, striking out three. It wasn’t a very taxing inning, but the pitches were there.

As a pitcher, Wahl doesn’t get to impact every game. He is the Rebels’ most productive player, and taking him out of the lineup in the games he can impact is like taking Michael Jordan away from the Bulls back in the day.
