Final: William & Mary 4, Ole Miss 1

It was a right-hander from William & Mary, not a left-hander, who shut down the Rebels today and ended their season.
Ole Miss goes 1-2 in the Raleigh Regional, losing twice to the No. 2 team from the Colonial Athletic Association.

Brett Koehler had posted fairly average numbers in his last two outings but was dominant against the Rebels, limited them to seven hits, three of them in a third inning that failed to produce a run.

Seven different Ole Miss players hit singles. There were no extra-base hits for Ole Miss. Twice the Rebels hit into double plays, and twice the made outs on the bases.

Sam Smith didn’t have his best performance, but he left trailing 4-1. The game looks a little better if there’s more offense behind him.

Jeremy Massie and Aaron Greenwood pitched well in relief.

Smith’s undoing was his inability to finish off William & Mary hitters in advantage counts. In the bottom of the first Smith had two outs and counts of 1-2 and 0-1 on Michael Katz and Ryan Lindemuth, who posted back-to-back doubles and give the Tribe an early lead.

There weren’t many opportunities on the bases for Ole Miss, and the Rebels didn’t produce when they had them.

Ole Miss loaded the bases with no outs in the fourth and got only one run. Austin Anderson scored when Preston Overbey hit into a 5-4-3 double play, and Will Jamison flied out to end the threat with Andrew Mistone at third.

Ole Miss ends the season 38-24.

William & Mary, the No. 3 seed, will play No. 1 seed North Carolina State in the championship game later today. If William & Mary wins – and I haven’t seen enough from the Wolfpack to think that can’t happen – the final game will be Monday night.

i guess one of these teams will play a double hitter today, Just hope its Rebels. NC State can be beat Florida State took two of three from them this season and so did Virginia, but both theses team are top ten and may have a national seed in CWS.

Rebels on their way back to Oxford SEASON OVER!!! 13 years as head coach Mike Bianco for Rebels and as yet able to lead them to the promised land College World Series play. Could Bianco on his return to Oxford find a moving van parked at his front door. It is a strong possibility.

Pretty bad when you get swept by Bill & Mary. #Firebianco

I don’t think Rebels would have been swept if Bianco had started his Ace pitcher rather than to take a gamble and lose it all. So it could be the thing that cost him his job.
