Rice advances, NC State to host super

For what it’s worth, here’s the final from Eugene, Ore., as Rice defeated No. 8 national seed Oregon 11-4 Monday to win the regional.

North Carolina State will now host a super. In all likelihood, Ole Miss would have hosted the super had it won the Raleigh Regional.

I still think the Raleigh Regional was a good draw for Ole Miss and that the Rebels would have had a good chance to advance had they played as they played at various times through the season. As Mike Bianco said in the postgame Sunday afternoon, this team lacked consistency.

NC State’s Carlos Rodon was very good at the end of the season including leading the Wolfpack to a 1-0 win over William & Mary in the second round of the regional, but Binghamton and W&M were both very competitive with NC State, which, like Ole Miss, doesn’t score runs in bunches.
