Markuson in Mississippi

Former Ole Miss offensive line coach Mike Markuson is coaching this season at Northeast Community College in Booneville.

This from the Daily Journal’s Brandon Speck, who covered Northeast’s media day:

“Every team in this state is going to have some great players,” Markuson said, “some guys that can play in the SEC. That’s great for our players. What I tell them in recruiting is ‘You play against the best, you showcase your talent.'”

Most of Markuson’s lengthy career coaching offensive line has been as Houston Nutt’s assistant.

Most folks reading this blog know how things ended in 2011, but Markuson has had some successful lines along the way.

He began the 2012 season coaching line at Wisconsin but was let go after two games.

Prior to Ole Miss, Markuson coached with Nutt at Murray State, Boise State and Arkansas.

Markuson began his career as a full-time coach in 1990 at Austin Peay and also coached at Alabama A&M prior to Murray State.

Northeast Community College in Booneville.was once known as Northest MIssissippi JC. Back in the 1950 time period Northeast put much better basketball teams on the floor than Ole Miss.
