A new gateway to the stadium

Ole Miss AD Ross Bjork talks more about Vaught-Hemingway’s North End Zone project in Sunday’s Daily Journal.

One of the things about the project that has intrigued me is the proposed entry point from the Grove to the stadium. That can make what is already an outstanding Game Day experience even better.

I am a fan of the big plaza area at sports venues, space to gather before entering, usually some entertainment going on. That’s what they’re talking about in connecting the Grove and the stadium.

Bjork calls it a “landing place for Game Day.”

We believe that we can still have the same vision of a front door and a landing place for us on Game Day between our athletic building and the Starnes Complex, that we can kind of clean up this whole space here. There are telephone and electrical wires that run above ground right now. There’s a parking lot. There are trees and things like that. We think we can make a plaza area that becomes the connection point from the Grove to our stadium so the Walk of Champions can really extend all the way into the stadium. We think that can be accomplished between our athletic building, the north end zone and the Starnes and FedEx centers.”

The proposal includes building a bell tower in the area as well. Bells would ring to let people in the Grove know it was time to enter the stadium.

They better be loud bells.

Sounds good. Just reckon what the stadium expansion status is. Also noticed all season tickets have been sold.

I’m not really sure of the time table. My guess would be that it is still a year or two from design phase. But I did notice the other day on the Forward Together site that they are now selling capital gift agreements for the new north end zone premium seating.
