Monday Press Conference

The beginnings of a blog notebook here. We’re between the first and second waves of players. Bo Wallace, Cody Prewitt and Andrew Ritter have come through. Waiting on others. Will add video when it finishes uploading. The highlights:

– Don’t read too much into the Texas A&M game film as Ole Miss heads to Alabama, says Rebels coach Hugh Freeze. You shouldn’t do that, because Johnny Manziel is a special kind of player. Bo Wallace says the same thing. “I won’t run around as much as he does.”

Wallace talks about that and more here. He goes on to say that he believes Ole Miss’ wide receivers are better than Texas A&M’s.

– Freeze said it was hard to take much confidence from last year’s 33-14 loss at Alabama, even though the Rebels converted touchdowns on two drives of 70-plus yards. Too much bad on offense, Freeze said, because of three turnovers. He took pride in the fact that Ole Miss slowed down the Alabama run. The Rebels held Eddie Lacy to under 100 yards, held TJ Yeldon to 3.8 yards per carry.

Here’s Freeze’s opening statement

– Freeze says wide receiver Vincent Sanders, out since the second day of practice with a broken collarbone, will play this week.

– Offensive tackles Emmanuel McCray and Pierce Burton both sat out during the open week but looked good in practice Sunday, Freeze said. Both will play against Alabama, and Laremy Tunsil will rotate in too. Tunsil has been too good to keep off the field, Freeze said.

– While A&M WR Mike Evans put up big numbers against Alabama, Freeze said that doesn’t necessarily mean Ole Miss receivers will but added he likes his group in any matchup.

– It’s possible linebacker Denzel Nkemdiche will play this week, but that won’t be known until much later in the week, perhaps Friday. “I won’t just play him because he wants to play. I won’t play him if he’s not ready,” Freeze said.

– Asked about the fact that Ole Miss has won only once in Tuscaloosa, Freeze said he wouldn’t spend much time talking about that to his players. They don’t know that, he said, and he’s not sure how many of his coaches do. (Maybe Matt Luke does.)

– Ole Miss was described as a very physical team in last year’s game. Here’s safety Cody Prewitt:
