The Ole Miss as the Little Engine That Could theme has been used before, not just with the current administration. I remember it back when the three-letter guy was a senior back in 2003. The Rebels were surging after the Texas Tech loss but were described by some as a non-threatening program.

Right now the Little Engine theme is accurate. How threatening the Rebels are against Alabama remains to be seen. They believe they will be very threatening. A team that has executed well this year will play close and have a shot it if it executes the same way again. …

From Athens, Georgia coach Mark Richt downplays his offensive linemen’s participation in the “APU”  — All Players United — protest against the NCAA. Those offensive linemen have not been made available for interviews this week. …

Former LSU coach Paul Dietzel has died. He coached the Tigers when Billy Cannon broke Ole Miss hearts in 1959. Scott Rabalais of The Baton Rouge Advocate makes mention of that game in his account of Dietzel’s life as a coach and administrator. …

Ole Miss guard Marshall Henderson has made The Sporting News’ list of the top 50 players in the country. Henderson, by the way, has not posted on Twitter since July 11. …
