Monday Press Conference

The beginnings of a Monday presser notebook here …

Here’s Hugh Freeze:

The injury situation is not good. Freeze rattled off a long list of wounded without ruling too many people in or out.

Freshman defensive end Robert Nkemdiche (hamstring) is definitely out. The soonest possible return for Nkemdiche would be after the Nov. 2 open date. It could be longer than that. If that’s the case Nkemdiche would miss three games: LSU, Arkansas and Idaho. They think the hamstring is stretched, not torn, but they don’t know for sure yet.

Freeze thanked everyone for prayers and support for Serderius Bryant, who was carried off the field on a stretcher. He said he heard from folks from Texas A&M and other schools. Bryant has a concussion and will this week go through the tests and observation that follow a concussion. The junior linebacker and team’s leading tackler has not been ruled out for LSU. Concern for Bryant really elevated because he lost consciousness on the field.

Complicating defensive matters right now is the fact that while Nkemdiche is out CJ Johnson (ankle) will most likely miss his third-straight game. Freeze said he plans to move third-year sophomore Ethan Hutson to defensive end.

Bo Wallace talked about taking his offensive linemen out for wings and says that will be a more regular occurrence. It was important to do that to promote chemistry and communication, he said.

Emmanuel McCray said Wallace was not in danger of losing support from his offensive linemen. Wallace made some comments after the Auburn game, nothing major but did say something along the lines of the Rebels needing to be better up front.

Here’s Wallace:

Freeze talked at length about his verbal altercation after the game the other night. Here’s the link. Freeze apologized for losing his composure and reached out to the fan saying he’d like to talk to him but doesn’t know who he is. He went on to say he will continue to defend the program, its players and his family. Says his response to the fan was “not typical” of him.

There was a great deal of discussion about freshman quarterback Devante Kincade. Freeze said he will get Kincade ready to play because of the soreness in Barry Brunetti’s shoulder.

Brunetti’s status for the week of practice is unclear, but he’s farther along than many others, particularly on the defensive side.

Kincade would only play and burn a redshirt only ┬áif Brunetti can’t go.
