Late Sunday evening Hugh Freeze reached out to MSU quarterback Dak Prescott on the loss of his mother:
@15_DakP very sorry to hear of your loss. Prayers from our Rebel family are with you.
MSU and Ole Miss, like any rivalry, can turn nasty, and it’s a breath of fresh air to see leaders at either school set a tone that maintains perspective.
– Freeze liked the attitude in Sunday’s workout.
– Expects everyone to play with the possible exception of CB Charles Sawyer and RB Jeff Scott. “We’re as healthy as we’ve been in a long time,” Freeze said.
That means Robert Nkemdiche will be back, and this is a good game to get healthier along the defensive line. Arkansas will try to pound the football, and while there have been a lot of struggles for the Razorbacks, they have run the football very well.
“If they ever convert drives they will be very dangerous, because they control the time of possession, and they run the football extremely well.”
Freeze said Nkemdiche’s snaps and conditioning will be closely monitored, and how much he’ll play will be determined by the flow of the game.
Mike Hilton at corner and Denzel Nkemdiche at linebacker will also be back.
– Freeze is glad to have the 11:21 start time. “We’re looking forward to getting an early kickoff. Something we haven’t had this year.”
– Freeze says depth and confidence increased during the starters’ time away. He mentioned DL Lavon Hooks specifically. CB Derrick Jones comes to mind as well.
Here’s Bo Wallace
Interesting stuff from linebacker Serderius Bryant here as he talks about a somewhat rocky relationship with Denzel Nkemdiche in the off-season, a product of two guy playing the same position and wanting badly to win the starting job.
The discord never escalated, and the players worked things out among themselves with a summertime discussion, Bryant said.
Good stuff from Bryant there also talking about conditioning for a guy who’s been away, like Robert Nkemdiche, and what that means when the injury is to a hamstring or something that keeps you from jogging or running more than other injuries might.
As the season has gone on Denzel Nkemdiche and Serderius Bryant have both had injuries. This defense has needed them both, and Dave Wommack has installed a 4-3 package where they’re on the field together. I suspect we’ll see that quite a bit against Arkansas as it tries to pound the football.
