Shackelford’s comeback

I thought D.T. Shackelford looked quicker and played with more energy against Arkansas than I’d seen him play this year.

Shackelford didn’t say it quite that strong when he spoke with us Tuesday, but he was clearly excited to play without the brace on his knee. It wasn’t Shackelford’s first game without the brace. He couldn’t give us a specific time that it came off, but he said it was around the Auburn game.

Here’s Shackelford:

Shackelford signed with Ole Miss in 2009. Prior to this season he hadn’t played since 2011 as he’s worked his way back from two surgeries to repair a torn ACL.

In the video Shackelford talks about the possibility of returning next season. He’s got a year of eligibility if he wants to do that. There are educational pursuits to consider. Education is extremely important to Shackelford, who has talked about becoming a school superintendent. He also hasn’t given up on the idea of pro football.

For the season Shackelford has appeared in all nine games and has played both end and linebacker along the way. He’ll work more at end this week since John Youngblood is out, Dave Wommack told us.

Shackelford has 22 tackles and two tackles for loss on the year.
