The season also began with talk of a Heisman Trophy for South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. It didn’t take long for that talk to stop, but Clowney remains a hot name for the NFL draft.

Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier was criticized during the year for his criticism of Clowney. Spurrier has a reputation for being tough on quarterbacks. So if you’re Connor Shaw, having Spurrier call you the best quarterback in school history must feel pretty good.
