Sawyer’s finale

Just two years ago Charles Sawyer was the Ole Miss nominee for the Conerly Trophy which means he was considered by the school to be their best player.

He was a returning starter at cornerback going into this season but through injuries and a DWI arrest — mostly injuries — he’s missed most of the season.

He had 22 passes defended and five interceptions over the past two years. This season he’s appeared in only six games with two starts with one pass break-up and one interception to his credit.

Sawyer’s health has allowed Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze to move Mike Hilton to safety to help with run defense against Georgia Tech.
