A few practice notes …
It’s possible the Rebels could be without wide receiver Ja-Mes Logan due to academics. There’s still a chance Logan gets cleared, Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze said, but as the situation lingers Logan’s chances become more doubtful.
It will be a big hit to an offense that struggled the last two games if Logan is unavailable.
Jeff Scott will be available. “He looked fresh today,” Freeze said of Scott.
Wide receiver Korvic Neat also had an academic issue, but like Scott, that’s cleared up.
Freeze talked about the “solid” year Cody Prewitt has had that resulted in Prewitt being named first-team AP All-America today.
He described Georgia Tech’s offense as comparable to Missouri’s, as a fundamental group that forces to you drive the field and make plays. Doing that to Missouri seemed to be easy for Auburn in the SEC championship game, but it was not easy for Ole Miss in a 24-10 loss to the Tigers in Oxford.
There were several questions about Donte Moncrief’s status regarding his NFL decision. It remains an unanswered question.
The necessary parties will meet after the season. The paper work has been filed to give Moncrief and idea of where he’d fit in the draft. Moncrief still says he’ll lean a good bit on the advice of Freeze, and Freeze doesn’t talk like a guy who would give him bogus advice.
Personally, I think we’re seeing the last days of Donte Moncrief at Ole Miss. He didn’t have the year he’d hoped for, but the draft is about pro potential, not college stats.
Mike Detillier, the NFL draft analyst based in New Orleans, thinks Moncrief is a second-round lock.
As you can hear in Prewitt’s video, he doesn’t rule out leaving early, but the NFL isn’t really on his radar right now. First-team AP All-America status may change that.
