Important Bowl Win

Happy New Year.

From the Mother Ship this morning, my column on the Rebels’ 25-17 Music City Bowl win over Georgia Tech and why that was important for the journey discussion.

It comes with a correction. The column states that Ole Miss is 5-11 in SEC play the last two seasons. I miscalculated while riding down the Trace. That record is actually 6-10. The Rebels defeated Auburn, Arkansas and Mississippi State last season, then Vanderbilt, LSU and Arkansas this season.

A 6-10 mark over two seasons isn’t one to be celebrated in most situations, but it is at Ole Miss. I don’t think Hugh Freeze got enough credit for the turnaround in 2012 given the state of the program upon his arrival. He’s in the process of changing those expectations, though, as the column states.

You also miscalculated Ole Miss winning! Nice GT pick!

JDM, you are certainly correct. By the way, did you predict a dominant Ole Miss run game before the bowl?

Happy new year. Looking forward to reading your posts in 2014.

Thanks Doug. Happy New Year to you and your family also.

PA…why didn’t we see a write up on the Rebel’s road win over a good Western Kentucky basketball team? The Clarion-Ledger didn’t run one either. Ole Miss is now 9-3 and plays their nemesis the Dayton Flyers on Sunday 7pm in Oxford.
A big Hotty Toddy & Happy New Year to all Rebel fans!!!

Beeze, just timing and manpower. I don’t think the computer ratings always tell the story, but Ken Pom has Western Kentucky at No. 168. It will be a bigger win for Ole Miss if the Rebels can knock off Dayton Saturday night at Tad Smith. Dayton is No. 50, Ole Miss is No. 77.

I agree…IF the Rebels can beat those d@#n Flyers! LOL
The Hilltoppers did beat Southern Miss which is currently rated #67 by kenpom, com.
