Ole Miss 9, UCF 2

The Rebels complete the sweep of Central Florida.

I didn’t make today’s game, but my assistant, Kyle Alford did. Here’s Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco talking about Sunday’s game and the weekend for the 11-1 Rebels.

It was another solid starting pitching performance for Ole Miss, this one from Sam Smith, who scattered four hits and walked two in six scoreless innings.

Ole Miss pitchers strung together eight scoreless innings, in fact, until the Knights (6-5) scratched out two runs on three hits and a walk against Scott Weathersby in the ninth.

Austin Blunt threw a perfect seventh with a strikeout, fly out and ground out.

Hawtin Buchanan gave up one walk in a hitless, scoreless eighth.

The Rebels had a four-run first inning and a three-run fourth inning.

Braxton Lee, Auston Bousfield, Austin Anderson, Henri Lartigue, Preston Overbey and Colby Bortles had RBI hit.

Lee was 2-for-4 and Bousfield was 3-for-4, lifting their averages to .341 and .429 respectively. J.B. Woodman got the start in right field and was 2-for-3 to lift his average to .385.

Lartigue had a pinch-hit double, and Anderson’s hit was also a double.

The Rebels are 11-1 and next play Wednesday night at home against Memphis. First pitch is 6:30.
