Friday Morning Update

Spanning the globe on a Friday morning …

From David Brandt, former Ole Miss beat writer turned AP reporter, a frightening fact that explains, in part, the Rebels’ struggles of late:

The first active Division I athlete to sue the NCAA over concussions is not a football player. …

South Carolina at times has capitalized on the persona of basketball coach Frank Martin. Now they’ve suspended him for cursing out one of his players in Tuesday’s loss to Florida. The power of the camera is displayed again. …

On the subject of discipline, Texas A&M has dismissed a rising sophomore safety who was expected to compete for a starting job, a four-star signee in the Class of 2013. …

And Boise State takes a 2-1 lead in suspensions for the Ole Miss-Boise game:

Saturday Down South previews the defensive rebuilding job ahead for SEC East schools including Vanderbilt which comes up early on the schedule for Ole Miss in Nashville. Lots of holes to fill for new Commodores coach Derek Mason. Vandy loses six of its top 10 tacklers.

SDS adds its SEC East predictions here.

Speaking of the East, Missouri’s Gary Pinkel was mentioned as a hot seat candidate this time a year ago. Now he’s under contract through 2020. Wow. 2020 used to be that kind of space-age year that might be mentioned in futuristic movies or something like that. Well, the Tigers are planning ahead.

Staying in the East, Tennessee, like Ole Miss has some key transfers who will contribute. More on the Vols plus a Butch Jones “word cloud” from the blog. …

Looks like Pro Day went pretty good for Clemson QB Tajh Boyd. …

While Ole Miss was getting drilled at Arkansas, Tennessee had a big SEC road win … it’s biggest in 39 years:

Scoring outburst by Florida’s Michael Frazier puts him in elite Gators’ company. …

LOL about your line of BSU leading OM at the moment in game day suspensions. Hope we stagnate at 1.

  • Karl Hungus

BSU may lead in Gameday suspensions, but can not compete with Ole Miss in player arrests and multimillion dollar lawsuits.
