FINAL: Ole Miss 2, UALR 1, 10 inn.

Josh Laxer’s superb relief, and Brantley Bell’s walk-off hit were the difference.

Austin Anderson had three hits including a double to lead off the bottom of the 10th. After bunting him ahead, it looked like the Rebels would leave the bases loaded before Bell singled to center.

Here’s Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco:

Chris Ellis, now through four starts, still has not allowed an earned run. He threw 5.2 scoreless tonight but battled through without his best stuff. He gave up only two hits but walked four.

The Rebels threatened in the fourth and sixth innings, but UALR left-hander Travis McDonald escaped unscathed each time and in both innings got the decisive outs against Bortles and Preston Overbey who left a combined five runners stranded in those opportunities.

In both innings Bortles struck out swinging, and Overbey popped out.

Ole Miss has scored just three runs in its last 21 innings.

Game 2 is Saturday at 4.

I hope the Rebels don’t become the team of last year. As I recall, Ole Miss started off last season with ‘hot bats’ and they turned ice cold and as the season progressed, the team couldn’t hit it’s way out of the proverbial paper bag.

The dreaded Bianco avalanche will come pouring down the mountain, when League play begins. All the wins over Arkansas School for the Blind will be a distant memory.

i see lots of hope in this seasn for the Young rebel baseball team, they have got a good crop of new talent and the pitching seems stronger that last season. So i hope this is the year for the Ole Miss baseball team. I have followed Rebel base for a number of years and a team as they could surprise alot of people. GO Rebels to Omaha!!
