Laxer talks Little Rock win

Here’s Ole Miss reliever Josh Laxer after his dominant performance agains UALR which finished just a few hours ago, a 2-1 Rebels win in 10 innings.

Laxer is an interesting story right now, a junior right-hander, a much-heralded signee who has really not turned the corner at the college level — perhaps until now.

He had seven strikeouts and no walks over four innings last night. It should be noted that UALR isn’t a very good offensive team. The numbers say the Trojans pitch it really well, and they supported that theory last night.

Here’s Laxer:

In a bullpen with roles still evolving Laxer, the former Madison Central star, has been extremely efficient. He’s allowed just one run in 11.2 innings, that run unearned and coming last night in the seventh. He’s walked only one batter and struck out 17.

If he can continue the pace he’ll be a huge piece of the puzzle this season, a piece perhaps that Mike Bianco wasn’t counting on a whole lot at the beginning. That is changing right now.

Game 2 is at 4 today with juco transfer left-hander Christian Trent going for Ole Miss.
