Ole Miss 11, UALR 5

I didn’t make today’s game. A few box score thoughts here …

Nice to see the bats awaken. UALR had a 2.13 team ERA coming in, but Ethan Schlechte had not been one of their better arms. Tomorrow’s starter, Cameron Allen, has a 2.25 ERA in 12.2 innings. …

It was not good to see a short start from Ole Miss juco transfer Christian Trent. He went just 4.2 innings — his shortest outing of the season — and gave up six hits and five runs, all earned. He started the game with three-straight scoreless innings. He gave up four runs on four hits in the fourth, one of them a three-run home run. …

Aaron Greenwood and Preston Tarkington did not have lock-down outings out of the pen, but it’s hard to get better than Hawtin Buchanan was in 1.1 innings with four batters faced and four strikeouts. In all, four relievers followed Trent, and none gave up a run. This isn’t a dynamic UALR offense, however. …

Another big day for Austin Anderson, going 3-for-4 with a walk and three runs scored. Auston Bousfield was 1-for-5, and his average dipped to .391.

Brantley Bell got a start today at second base. I’m signing off on that. Bell hits. Today he was 1-for-3 with a 2-run single in the first. He was also hit by a pitch. His average is up to .476. …

Game 3 is tomorrow at 1:30. Looks like a good weather day right now.
