Wednesday Morning Update

Spanning the globe on a Wednesday morning …

Here’s Bruce Pearl upon his arrival at the Auburn Regional Airport on Tuesday:

As you can hear, he immediately talks about winning an SEC championship. If Pearl delivers — or even comes close — it’s quite a legacy Auburn AD Jay Jacobs could be building with his hiring of a football coach who wins the SEC and plays for the national championship, then a proven NCAA tournament baseball coach whose success at Auburn is still TBA, then Pearl.

The early reaction is that the SEC needs Bruce Pearl. This from John Clay of the Lexington Herald-Leader. …

More on Pearl’s hiring here. …

Nothing’s really changed in the story of Andy Kennedy’s connection with the South Florida job because USF has not hired a coach, and Kennedy, while he refers to such talk as “speculation” has not referred to it as bogus. He has not come out and said he will definitely not coach at USF next year and will remain at Ole Miss.

Heres a blog that covers USF and gives an nice view of the state of the Bulls’ program. …

On the spring football front, the Rebels are back on the practice field today.

From USA Today, here’s a look at the SEC West with mention of the Egg Bowl. They also list the five players from the SEC West that the paper believes it will be talking about next season. There’s one player from each school — except Ole Miss and MSU. …

From Athens, Georgia’s four arrested football players are going through spring practice. …

Football is under way at Florida, where new offensive coordinator Kurt Roper, formerly of Ole Miss and Duke under David Cutcliffe, promises to pick up the pace with passes to playmakers in space. Alabama coach Nick Saban would definitely call him one of the “fastball guys.” …

NIT Fever: Arkansas advances with win over Indiana State. The kid that lit up Ole Miss a couple of weeks ago was on again. ….

Okay, Mark Richt has set a new low. I rank him below Bucky Freeze, now. How can Richt let these guys see the field? Georgia may have overtaken Ole Miss’ rightful spot as having the most hypocritical football coach. At least Freeze somewhat punishes players.
