Ole Miss 8, Missouri 3

The Rebels get the sweep, their first since winning three at Tennessee April 19-21 of last year.

As in control of this series as Ole Miss looked over the first two games, it looked out of sync until Missouri ace Brett Graves left after the seventh inning.

The Rebels rallied against the Missouri bullpen with six runs on six hits and a walk in the eighth inning.

Two big outs from Wyatt Short, the Rebels’ fourth pitcher, in the top of the eighth set the table.

Here’s Mike Bianco:

Short pitched the final 1.2 innings allowing only one hit and no runs.

After hitting five home runs in the first two games the Rebels had no extra-base hits today — 10 singles.

It was not a stellar day in the field. At times Ole Miss appeared unfocused and had four errors in the game.

Here’s Austin Anderson:

Anderson was 2-for-4 and drove in the go-ahead run. The tying run was scored in dramatic fashion after pinch-runner Cameron Dishon reached home from second base on Auston Bousfield’s infield hit.

It was an aggressive call by assistant coach Cliff Godwin at third after Ole Miss had several runners thrown out late in the game in their 5-4 loss at South Carolina.

Sam Smith was solid. Except for a leadoff double in the first that led to a quick Missouri run after some small ball from the Tigers he was able to match Graves in the early innings.

Smith went six innings, scattering five hits, with three runs, two earned, a walk and a strikeout.

Here’s Smith:

The Rebels improve to 21-4 overall, 4-2 in the SEC. They take on Southern Miss in Pearl Tuesday night then remain on the road for SEC play at Alabama.
