Trent’s second chance

Ole Miss left-hander Christian Trent, once a member of the LSU baseball program, is making the most of his second chance at SEC baseball this season.

A native of Madisonville, La., Trent signed with LSU, redshirted, and then played his freshman season at Delgado Community College in New Orleans.

He will start Friday against LSU, the second game of the series. He’s 4-0, with a 2.44 ERA and eight walks to 49 strikeouts in 59 innings.

With the loss of starters Bobby Wahl and Mike Mayers from last year’s team, the Rebels needed Trent to acclimate quickly, and he has. Included among his starts is a complete game shutout of Auburn

Ole Miss catcher Will Allen watched Trent in the fall and wasn’t sure he’d be so consistent so soon.

“I knew he was going to be a great pitcher for us. I didn’t know he was going to be pitching on the weekend and doing as good a job as he’s been doing, but week in and week out watching him you kind of see the consistency. He just gets after it.”

Here’s more of Allen:

LSU in my opinion is one of the best college baseball teams in the SEC and country. i don’t like saying this but i believe the Boys from the Bayou country will possible take two of the three, but on the other hand should the Rebels get to and beat Aaron Nola in the first game then the Rebels have a chance of two of three. or a sweeo. Its going to be some very good college baseball played here in this series.- preview of possible CWS play.. Go rebels.!!

    • Carl unhung us

LOL. JB, one week Ole Miss cant even beat a crappy msu team according to you, the next they are a preview of the CWS according to you. Off your schizophrenia meds? Got to be one of the most unfaithful so called fans ever. Even if PA thimks you are a good guy…

  • karl hungus

If the Sharkfins take two of ’em ‘gainst the corn dogs they may be for real. The momentum could propel the Sharkfins to achieve the unimaginable.

  • karl hungus

Don’t pay ’em no mind, JB. You have every right as an American and a vet, to change your mind and voice your opinions. It’s a free country, although some would rather it be under communistic rule, where the printed opinions be censored. God bless America!!!

    • JB

My friend Karl, i pay no attrntion to some of these Ole Miss fans they have supported a loser for so long is that their “schizophrenia meds” no longer work for them. and I think PA is a very good guy and sports reported. I appreciate his untiring work and the DJ for bringing the mail way down here in the Florida swamps. GO Gators!

      • TheGiantRebel

I’ve read this blog for a number of years and JB is a good guy and a Vet as well and have nothing but respect for him.
So I am puzzled that he has befriended Karl.
Anyhoo… Karl is an MSU fan, an Ole Miss hater, and seems to be a bandwagon fan that changes his name and favorite team on a regular basis. He has been an MSU fan and a LSU fan over the past weeks. So if LSU wins the series he will likely jump on that LSU bandwagon til they lose…

  • karl hungus

JB, some fans can’t handle the truth. Make good rational speculations, then they resort to name calling and personal attacks. Americans have fought suppression of speech a long time and it will always be a fight, as long as there are those who want to suppress free thought.

    • Captain Jack

Name calling and personal attacks is all that you ever do karl. You cannot refer to Ole Miss or any Ole Miss player without calling them some name. It’s just childish.

  • karl hungus

I’ve said it many times…I am a college sports fan. Although I graduated from Ole Miss, I completely disagree with the way the program is being ran. I want Colonel Reb on the sidelines. I’m not racist, I am a traditionalist. Colonel Reb doesn’t have to represent the slave days(which were a despicable time in the country), but he can stand for southern tradition, he can stand for the Ole Miss Rebels!!!! A black bear?!? Really? Sharkfins may as well be their name. I may be the only one who feels this way, but I doubt it.

    • Captain Jack

Karl, I have been reading this blog for years and I want to ask you an honest question. Are you ColoradoReb from a few years ago? I don’t care who you really are. I was just wondering if you are the same guy. You say that you speak truth, so answer truthfully and I will believe you.

      • karl hungus

Cappy, I am not Coloradoreb. I’m just guy that has strong opinions on college football in Mississippi. Be it Ole Miss, Mississippi State or Southern Mississippi. I give credit when it’s deserved and give hell, when it’s deserved. I think that Ole Miss has done some weak moves in the past several years. I think Mississippi State has done like wise and I thought Southern Mississippi really screwed the pooch, getting rid of Bower. I say what I think. This is the most read blog in the area or I wouldn’t post on it.

    • Captain Jack

I thought that you graduated from Northwestern. Which is it? I thought you speak the truth.

      • karl hungus

Northwestern? Nope. Born in Mississippi, schooled in Mississippi…now I call Tennessee my home, kinda like Elvis.

        • Captain Jack

So you are saying all of that Northwestern talk when you were Cid was not true? Big surprise.

  • karl hungus

Cid? Why everybody thinks I’m this Cid is beyond me. Are there archives available where I can find him? He seems to have left an indelible mark on this blog.

    • Ilovebulldoglosers

Everybody needs to stop picking on Karl. He will also leave an indelible mark on this blog, much like the brown mark in his panties. Go, Karl Go. Leave your mark.

Dabbo Sweeney is being hounded for promoting a Christian atmosphere at Clemson. Now there’s a coach that lives his life right. There’s no hypocrisy in his words. The best coach in NCAA.

  • karl hungus

Freeze could probably learn a few things from Dabbo. Dabbo does it the right way. His promises are solid and forthright. I look for big things from Clemson this season.

  • karl hungus

Dabbo’s Christian beliefs aren’t anything new. He was in the F.C.A. way back when he played for Gene Stallings at Alabama. He didn’t just start it up, when he began coaching and he is still very active in the F.C.A. today. You gotta like a guy like that.
