Ole Miss left-hander Christian Trent, once a member of the LSU baseball program, is making the most of his second chance at SEC baseball this season.
A native of Madisonville, La., Trent signed with LSU, redshirted, and then played his freshman season at Delgado Community College in New Orleans.
He will start Friday against LSU, the second game of the series. He’s 4-0, with a 2.44 ERA and eight walks to 49 strikeouts in 59 innings.
With the loss of starters Bobby Wahl and Mike Mayers from last year’s team, the Rebels needed Trent to acclimate quickly, and he has. Included among his starts is a complete game shutout of Auburn
Ole Miss catcher Will Allen watched Trent in the fall and wasn’t sure he’d be so consistent so soon.
“I knew he was going to be a great pitcher for us. I didn’t know he was going to be pitching on the weekend and doing as good a job as he’s been doing, but week in and week out watching him you kind of see the consistency. He just gets after it.”
