OXFORD – Ole Miss Athletics is coming to aid of the victims devastated by the storms around our state this week.

Through the Rebel Relief Project, Ole Miss fans and area residents will have the opportunity to donate household and clothing items for tornado victims across Mississippi at various locations in Oxford this weekend.

On Saturday, the Ole Miss football equipment truck and athletics department staff, coaches and student-athletes will be on location at Wal-Mart on Jackson Ave., to accept donations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and on Sunday, pick-up will be at Larson’s Big Star on University Ave., from 3 to 7 p.m.

Fans are asked to donate household, personal and clothing items and specifically the following: water, bottled water, sports drinks and soft drinks, trash bags, wipes, large bottles of hand sanitizer, baby supplies – diapers, wipes, formula; clean up supplies: Lysol sprays, Clorox, Pine-Sol, paper towels, etc.; snacks (Nabs, peanut butter crackers, Little Debbie snacks, etc.); heavy duty work gloves, tarps, flashlights, plastic storage containers (medium  & large); hygiene items (toothpaste, deodorant, mouthwash, soap, hand towel, razors) and toilet tissue.

Ole Miss will be supplementing the donated items with hundreds of Nike shirts and Gatorade products. The donations will be provided to the American Red Cross and Salvation Army by the athletics department on Monday.

Also, several Rebel teams are planning trips to devastated towns to help in the cleanup process in the coming days.

In addition to the athletics department’s relief efforts, Sigma Pi fraternity has set up tables in front of the Ole Miss Student Union to collect items for survivors. Donations, such as toiletries, nonperishable food items, water, clothes and shoes, are being accepted from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m through Friday. Sigma Pi will also be gathering donations at the entrance of Oxford-University Stadium at this weekend’s series against Arkansas.

Donations may also be dropped off at the Office of Dean of Students (Student Union, Room 422) and at the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (Lyceum, Room 223). Items will be delivered to the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army.

Monetary donations are being accepted by the UM Foundation for the Ole Miss Family Fund to help students who may have been affected by the storms. Donations may be dropped off at the Office of Dean of Students (Student Union, Room 422) or at the UM Foundation on University Avenue. Online giving is encouraged by visiting www.umfoundation.com/makeagift.
