Final: Ole Miss 7, Arkansas 4

I didn’t predict success for the Rebels after the top of the first. It looked like Christian Trent was going to have a bad day, and statistically, it was easily his worst in SEC play.

Trent had not allowed more than two runs in an SEC start, and he gave up four runs on six hits in the top of the first.

But Trent and relievers Scott Weathersby, Wyatt Short and Josh Laxer combined to throw eight shut-out innings.

The biggest reason for the doom and gloom forecast was that Arkansas left-hander Jalen Beeks had given up as many as four runs in a game just once this season. That changed today as the Rebels chased Beeks after 3.2 innings and stung him with season-highs of 10 hits and six runs.

Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco, on his 47th birthday, left quickly after the game for a personal engagement. Assistant coach Carl Lafferty handled interviews:

Ole Miss cut into that 4-0 deficit in a big way in the bottom of the first with three runs with an RBI hit from Brantley Bell, a wild pitch from Beeks and a sac fly from Sikes Orvis.

The Rebels added three more runs in the fourth, an inning that included five hits — one of them for an RBI from J.B. Woodman, two of them successful bunts.

Orvis added a solo home run in the fifth, his 12th of the year.

Will Allen was 3-for-4 in the game. Orvis was 2-for-3 with a sac fly and two RBIs. Robinson also had two hits.

Rebel fans are now expecting Sykes to knock it out of the park every game so that they can have their Ole Miss Rebel Home Run Beer Shower. :))

The Gators (32-15/17-6 SEC) secured their fourth-straight series
triumph and maintained their two-game advantage over No. 16 Ole Miss in
the standings. ole Miss is the SEC west leader at present. i think the SEC tournament is up for grab amongst several oncoming teams as, Vandy, So. Carolina, Arkansas, alabama or Tex A&M. I don’t believe the Gators or Ole Miss will win that tournament , but i do believe they will land a regional and possible a national seed for CWS play.

Beer shower!! How original. I’ve never seen that before. If it’s alcohol abuse…it’s happening at Ole Miss.

After each homerun….everybody should go beat up some drunk.
