Final: Georgia 2, Ole Miss 0

The Rebels will have to wait till Sunday to have a chance to win the series, and they need the win in a big way to advance their regional host hopes.

They advanced nothing today against Georgia freshman right-hander Robert Tyler, who limited the Rebels to three hits, one of them in the team’s very first at-bat as Braxton Lee led off the bottom of the first with a double. What followed was a messed up sacrifice attempt. It wasn’t clear at the time just how big a missed opportunity that was.

Here’s Mike Bianco:

Christian Trent battled Tyler with 6.2 scoreless innings. There were two highlight video catches behind him, one from Bousfield with his back to the infield, another a diving effort from Lee.

After Lee’s double, the Rebels had singles from Austin Anderson and Will Allen but nothing else.

Bousfield reached in the ninth with a leadoff HBP but Tyler retired Anderson, Allen and Sikes Orvis in order to end the game.

Georgia had nine hits.

Here’s Bousfield:

The Rebels can win the series with a win today. Last night’s 12-2 victory was the 16th SEC win of the year for Ole Miss to guarantee a plus-.500 finish in SEC regular season play for the first time since winning 16 games in 2010.

The rest of the games this weekend and next weekend at Texas A&M are important in terms of reaching goals of regional host and possibly a national seed. Both are on the table.

The deadline to submit bids to host is a week from today. Much more on that from John Davis in the week to come.

Have to give the Dawgs credit for keeping the SEC’s top hitting team quiet all day. Hopefully they got the BAD TASTE out of their mouths from Friday’s 12-2 loss. Time for the Rebels to get focused on winning this series against a mediocre team and staying on top in the West.

Excitement SUNDAY! Will there be a tie in the western division in baseball? If Mississippi State ties black bears, they may hang a co-championship banner, like when the black bears did with LSU, in 03? Or was in 08?

Gotta give the black bears credit! Looks like they might vomit all over their clown shoes and not win the regular season west AND not host a regional. Oh well…just like always, in every sport.

    • TheGiantRebel

Sorry Hillary Duff. Rebs still on top in the west!

  • Nigel Gruff

Black bears better sweep the Aggies or it could be CHOKEVILLE for the bears, with Mississippi State just one game back!!!

  • Nigel Gruff

It would be a shame to let Mississippi State come from 4 games back and win regular season….although the regular season doesn’t mean alot, other than seeding.

  • Nigel Gruff

If Black bears lose two next weekend, you can kiss hosting a super regional goodbye! Pressure is on…don’t choke it up, black bears.

  • Nigel Gruff

The good news is…the bears have Ellis and that should be a lock for one win.

Karl…I mean Anime, you’ve completely lost what little grasp you had on reality. You need professional help. Wow!

You really haven’t lost your grasp of reality karl. You can’t lose something you never had… After those 2 amazing extra-inning wins over that powerhouse Tennessee team this weekend, anyone who thinks the udder school is going to sweep bama has definitely quit taking his meds…
