Final: Ole Miss 2, Georgia 1, 10 innings

Auston Bousfield came through with his second chance to drive in the go-ahead run.

With runners first and second and nobody out in the eighth, Bousfield hit a ground ball to short, and Georgia picked off the lead runner, Errol Robinson.

With the bases loaded and one out in the 10th, Bousfield line a hit to right-center and Holt Perdzock, who pinch hit for Preston Overbey and started things with a 1-out walk, scored easily.

Bousfield drove in both runs, getting an RBI hit in the fifth that tied the game at 1. He was 2-for-5. Robinson was 3-for-4 on the day.

Here’s Robinson:

Here’s Mike Bianco:

Location had been a big issue for Sam Smith the last couple of weeks, and he was very good today. He did what he does. He gave up hits, seven of them, but walked none and pitched seven innings. He had gone a total of 5.2 innings in his previous two starts. The Bulldogs didn’t hit rockets off him today. A couple of them were on the infield, and one, in the first, would have been a routine out had Overbey not been breaking toward second to cover the bag as the runner at first started on the hit-and-run. Georgia later scored on a sac fly in the top of the first, its only run of the game.

Jeremy Massie was again strong in relief. After Smith pitched six straight scoreless innings, Massie pitched another three, giving up just one hit with no walks and four strikeouts.

Here’s Massie:

Ole Miss improves to 37-15 overall, 17-10 in the SEC, its most conference wins since going 20-10 when it shared the overall title with LSU in 2010.

The Rebels finish the SEC regular season at Texas A&M beginning Thursday.

Mother’s Day sprinkles at Swayze have given way to sun as Georgia finishes up warm-ups.

If Mississippi State takes two from Bama, that assures a regular season co-championship…State will hang a co-Championship banner like the black bears did in ’03.

    • StarReb

Check your math. That assures nothing. If Ole Miss wins 2 at TAM then Ole Miss is still in first. Right Einstein?

      • Nigel Gruff

Wrongo, but right!! If black bears win two and Mississippi State wins three, then they tie!! Thus co champions….hang a banner!! The name is Gruff…Nigel Gruff.

        • a namw

If that udder school wins 3 after that dominating win today! Drivel Mcfluff, I predict no worries from down udder…

          • Nigel Gruff

I don’t quite know what that means, but I think I agree. If State is the udder school and they sweep the Gumps..aka Bama, then you’re worries..they’ll be regular season champions..good call..karl..I mean cid..I mean anime.

          • a name

lol. Typical response from mullens puppets. To quote you from your cid days, if that happens I’ll leave and never post here again. Unlike you, I’m a man of my word. I just don’t have to worry about Cohen’s chokers though…

          • Killer_Beeze

“a name” you are el correcto about Cid. He’s a fabricator and an interloper: a person who interferes or meddles in the affairs of others. He trolls where he’s not wanted.

        • StarReb

If a frog had wings…….. I was responding to the one possible outcome that you referenced. If Ole Miss wins all 3 and the pups lose 3 then the good guys prevail.

The way you stated it if State won 2 then irregardless of what Ole Miss did against TAM then they could catch Ole Miss.
I was just pointing out your flawed thinking.

The banner claims a Co-Championship with LSU in 2003. Why didn’t the bears play half of the SEC championship game? Can’t figure that out.

  • Nigel Gruff

I’m counting on Da black bears to lose two….should be a lock the way the Aggies are playing and given the histrionics of Bianco’s propensity to better check your pants, Gladys.

  • Nigel Gruff

Hey Star! You a very photogenic!

  • Nigel Gruff

There’s no NIT tournament in baseball….next weekend could be a disastrous revelation for black bear baseball.

    • a name

And even worse for the udder school.

  • Nigel Gruff

Now, about that 2003 co championship….why didn’t the black bears play in Atlanta? They did win the west, according to the banner, right Euclid?

  • JB

Don’t get too sure of yourselves yet Ole Miss and Miss State, LSU is still have a chance, chance slim, but it could happen.

  • Nigel Gruff

There have been four SEC football teams yet to play in Atlanta for the SEC championship, since 1992..Aggies, Commodores, Wildcats and the black bears.

    • a name

That is strange. I never knew that Maine has become a member of the SEC.

  • Nigel Gruff

    Good point right there, JB!

  • Killer_Beeze

I’m becoming (it’s been a slow process) a big Errol Robinson fan. He’s only a freshman and has made some freshman mistakes. But he’s also made some BIG TIME plays. IMO he will only get better and better.

    • Parrish Alford

I agree. I think Errol is a much better player than he was a month ago. This weekend he made a play moving to his right, a diving stop. He’s had a tendency to give up on balls to his right. He was more consistent with plays in either direction this weekend. Still has a tendency to pound his glove before making a throw and needs to release the ball quicker. Lots of improvement for J.B. Woodman over the last month or so too.

  • Nigel Gruff

If the black bears choke up next weekend’s series…it will be because the umpires cheated them, just like it was ” Shaw that let State beat Da beats in hoops”

  • Nigel Gruff

All of Da bears sports teams would be undefeated for their entire history, if the officials hadn’t cheated them.

  • Nigel Gruff

Never heard a black bear say, ” well we just got our rears handed to us in that game”. Nope, it’s always, ” that was the worst officiating ever, we should won.” Pitiful.

  • Nigel Gruff

The black bears have gone from certainly hosting a super regional, to holy crap!, can they win the regular season west? Don’t choke it up….bears!!
