With the NFL draft behind us now I’ve pondered the question of who might be Ole Miss draft candidates in 2015?
Clearly Rebels coach Hugh Freeze would like to see more Ole Miss players drafted. He made that statement at his pre-spring press conference.
As for the draft of 2015, C.J. Johnson comes to mind.
He came to mind for ESPN SEC blogger Alex Scarborough as well. Here’s what Scarbough had to say:
CJ Johnson, DE, Ole Miss: This one might come as a bit of a surprise after he missed more than half of last season to an injury. But the NFL clearly loves pass rushers (23 defensive ends were drafted this year), and Johnson is one of the best in the SEC. He has that quick first step scouts covet. If he can show he’s athletic enough to play both defensive end and outside linebacker, he could make himself attractive to several NFL teams.
You can see Yarborough’s list of potential draftees from the SEC West here.
Johnson’s inclusion will be determined in large part by his health which hasn’t always been there for him. When he’s full go, he’s good.
If Johnson is indeed drafted next year it will be with a year of eligibility remaining. He and guard Aaron Morris both got medical redshirts for 2013, their junior seasons.
Among the seniors, NFLDraftScout.com currently rates Cody Prewitt — a returning AP All-American — No. 3 out of 145 available free safeties in the 2015 class. The website rates Bo Wallace as the No. 11 available quarterback and Senquez Golson as the No. 29 cornerback.
There will be more draft picks to come from that 2013 recruiting class.
