The Rebels are back in action tonight at Arkansas State with a first pitch at 6:30, weather permitting. The forecast looks rainy.
A rainout wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing for Ole Miss. The only benefit is that a win could have decent RPI value. Arkansas State has been on bubble of a 50 RPI and is currently listed at No. 54 by WarrenNolan.com. That gain is outweighed by the prospect of losing and the Rebels damaging their own RPI — currently 15 — as they did with the loss to Southern Miss a few weeks ago.
Whatever happens tonight and this week at College Station, the Rebels remain confident in their offense, even though they’ve been held to two runs or fewer in three of their last four games.
Here’s Auston Bousfield:
Here’s Will Allen:
Bousfield begins the week leading the SEC in hitting at .367 with Allen third at .351.
Ole Miss is hitting a collective .303, tied for the SEC lead with Kentucky. Texas A&M is third at .286.
Bousfield leads the SEC in hits (81) and Allen (73 ) and Austin Anderson (68) are in the top five.
Sikes Orvis is second in home runs with 12, Allen third with seven. Braxton Lee leads the SEC with 24 stolen bases.
Arkansas State is 29-22 overall, 17-10 and in second place in the Sun Belt, six games behind Louisiana-Lafayette (remember the hyphen) which is running away with the thing.
The Red Wolves are hitting .270 as a team with a 4.25 ERA. Their leading hitter is Matt Burgess with a .318 average and 52 RBIs.
