I visited with Ole Miss pole vaulter Sam Kendricks a few minutes ago. He and his teammates are in Lexington getting ready for the SEC outdoor meet which begins tomorrow.
For all the Kendricks – the reigning NCAA outdoor champion – has accomplished in his Ole Miss career, he’s 0-for-2 at the SEC outdoor meet.
Of course that’s something he hopes to change this week. I asked him if he is healthy and ready to go.
He said, “I will tell you that I am perfectly physically fit. If I told you anything else it would start rumors, and I don’t want to do that.”
Kendricks has jumped 18-8.25 four times this year. That currently ties for the top jump in the world and leads the NCAA.
It’s the same height he jumped last summer in Eugene, Ore., to win the NCAA title.
