Oxford Regional

I am back in town and set to go for Ole Miss-Washington at 3.

Georgia Tech and Jacksonville State are just now getting started.

Here’s our coverage from John Davis and Brandon Speck of the Rebels’ 12-2 win over Jacksonville State in the regional opener for both teams:

Sikes Orvis and Chris Ellis had an “overwhelming effort” to get the Rebels off to a good start in the regional. …

Freshman shortstop Errol Robinson had a costly error in an SEC tournament elimination loss against Arkansas but turned in a solid performance against Jax State …

No. 2 seed Washington, the second-place team in the PAC-12 with a 21-9 record, was equally dominant against Georgia Tech. …

Washington will throw junior right-hander Jeff Brigham (7-3, 2.93) today. Brigham allowed one run or less in nine of 15 starts. Six of those were in his first six starts. He’s ranked No. 46 on Perfect Game’s list of mid-season draft prospects. He’s pitched 83 innings with 20 walks and 41 strikeouts. Eighteen of his 72 hits allowed have gone for extra bases, 15 of them doubles. Teams are hitting .247 against him.

In other news from the Mother Ship …

My column after a week at the SEC meetings in Destin. It’s all about harmony right now as the biggest teams in Division I seek major changes to the power structure. The smaller budget teams among the big schools have to have that harmony always and forever.
