Facing elimination in the College World Series it looks like Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco and Texas Tech coach Tim Tadlock will be handing the ball to their best pitchers tomorrow.
Neither pitchers were the Friday night guys for their teams, but statistically, both have their team’s best numbers.
Here’s Ole Miss’ lefty Christian Trent on getting ready for Tech:
If Tech coach Tim Tadlock keeps to his normal routine the Rebels will see another strong lefty in Tech freshman Dylan Dusek.
He’s 8-0 with a 1.94 ERA in 74.1 innings and carries a scoreless innings streak of 23 2-3 innings into the game. That dates back to May 6 in Lubbock against Oklahoma when the Sooners touched him for seven hits, four runs – all earned – in four innings.
Dusek didn’t consistently pitch deep into games until deep into the season. He’s pitched past the seventh in two of his last three starts. He left after five innings in Game 2 of Tech’s super regional against College of Charleston. He had given up only three hits and a walk, but a rested bullpen came on and helped complete a 1-0 shutout.
Dusek went eight innings against Miami in a 3-0 shutout and was named MVP of the Coral Gables Regional.
Trent has also had an impressive postseason. He gave up one run in 6.1 innings against Washington as the Rebels won that all-important second game of the Oxford Regional 2-1.
As the Rebels faced elimination with a 1-0 super regional deficit against La.-Lafayette, Trent contained the powerful Cajuns’ offense for seven innings with four hits and only one run – unearned – in a 5-2 Ole Miss win.
Trent is 9-0 with a 2.21 ERA in 102 innings this year.
