Ole Miss Omaha update

Long-ball hitters are frustrated in Omaha, but they’re all frustrated together. No home runs in the College World Series. When hopeful deep shots leave the bats expectant fans rise only to fall with disappointment as balls die in the outfield.

Sikes Orvis believes better times are ahead for the Ole Miss offense, which has just three runs on six hits in two games.

Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco chimes in on the offense, TD Ameritrade Park and other topics too as the Rebels prepare to face TCU tomorrow night at 7.

Sam Smith will start for the Rebels against TCU.

Smith has gone deep into games lately but has gotten things under control. He says he feels fine physically and could go deeper but that Bianco wants to get a talented bullpen involved too.

Smith with 4 2-3 innings in the regional-clinching win over Washington and 3 2-3 in his last start, the super regional-clincher at La.-Lafayette.

Looking back: Ole miss not a good cws record, their last victory there until the beat Texas Tech in yesterday game was a 8-1 victory against Southern Illinois on 16 June 1969, but got eliminated the next game by a Texas team. Tom Swayzye the coach. Jake Gibbs got them there in 1972 but two and out. A Texas team sent them home once again SO now to date will ole miss be getting their bags pack after tomorrows game and with another Texas team. maybe yes or maybe no!

    • This history is not relevant. There are 6 teams in the nation still playing in the CWS. Ole Miss is one of them. All SEC fans should be rooting for Ole Miss and Vandy.

Good point NMReb. Those who are not Ole Miss fans point out past losses as relevant, but when you bring up past Ole Miss successes they think those are not relevant. This team is now. Have nothing to do with teams from 42 years ago…

what successes? the football and basket programs produce no accountable winners in years, Dave clutcliff did bring some hope to the shambled football program, but got fired, Kennedy’s basket ball program is also a disgrace with no ncaa tournament play to show for, Rod Barnes brought some hope to that program, but he got the choppin ax as well.So in tonight baseball game with TCU Ole miss had better be able to put runs across the plate, because they are going l need them. Maybe that black bear and hotty toddy will revive team. Tune in tonight on espn2 at 1900 hours for the fire works..

History: Past success – Rob Evans in basketball, Bob Weltlich in basketball, Johnny Vaught in football. You are choosing to look only at the negative history, the times of loss. If those wins with those coaches were too far back, who decides what history is relevant. What is relevant is that Ole Miss is the only Mississippi team still active in baseball this year, just like last year what was relevant was that MSU was. Now is what matters. Nobody on MSU’s team last year had anything to do with them making the series in the past, just like nobody on Ole Miss’s team this year had anything to do with their appearance in the CWS in the 70s. Now is what counts, and they have as good of a chance of winning as anyone. The past has nothing to do with it.

There’s always a pessimist in the crowd. Like you said…Ole MIss is one of the 6 best teams in America and has as much chance of winning the CWS as the other five.
The Rebels beat and eliminated Vandy in the SEC Tourney and lost to Virginia by 1 run. The remaining teams are all capable of taking home the trophy. I just want the Rebels to do it.

i am rooting for the SEc Teams even Ole miss since that team is predominately made up with Florida kids, the Vandy team internationally formed so I pull for them as well .Both teams will very good coaches

        • TheGiantRebel

There are 11 kids from MS on this team. 7 are from FL. 5 from La, 4 from TN, etc. so let’s hope they can get it done!
Vandy is definitely in good shape to get to the title game…
