Media Days Notes

Today’s Schedule

– Auburn

– Florida

– Vanderbilt

Some historical notes:

Two former Ole Miss coaches rank in the top four all-time of Media Days appearances because they represented two schools.

Houston Nutt and Tommy Tuberville — with Arkansas and Auburn in addition to Ole Miss — are tied for third in appearances with 14.

Georgia’s Mark Richt — all at one school — will tie them this year.

Currently at 13 visits along with Richt is former MSU coach Jackie Sherrill.

The leader is Steve Spurrier, also at two different schools, who will be making his 22nd appearance this year. Behind Spurrier is former Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer with 15 trips to Media Days.

In addition to Nutt, Tuberville and Spurrier, Nick Saban (12), Bill Curry (10) and Gerry DiNardo (9) also represented two schools at Media Days.

Six coaches are tied with three appearances. Will Muschamp will make a fourth visit this season. Derek Dooley, James Franklin, Joker Phillips, Ron Zook and former Ole Miss coach Ed Orgeron will remain at three.

There are plenty of coaches who made fewer than three. Hugh Freeze has made two and will make his third on Thursday. Twelve coaches made only one appearance including Ole Miss interim coach Joe Lee Dunn in 1994.

Elsewhere for Ole Miss, Billy Brewer had nine Media Days visits, David Cutcliffe six.

in my guessing, out of the last 21 years of this media day event, the Florida Gators have been selected as projected SEC champs eight (8) time and won four (4) of the eight., not bad Alabama a slight better percentage, Could it be Gators and Tide once again? Possible but not likely. My pick goes to our neighbor North of the State line the Crimson Tide.and in a match up for national title with Florida States Noles.
