DK Metcalf’s skills as a wide receiver blossomed last season, bringing him, and the Chargers, a lot of recognition in the process.
His size and performances in camps and most recently the National Select 7-on-7 Championships earned him even further accolades.
The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Metcalf was just named as one of the nation’s top players in the nation for the 2016 signing class by Rivals.com Monday. Metcalf, who is a verbal pledge to Ole Miss, was rated as the 19th best overall player by the recruiting site, and the nation’s second rated wide receiver behind only Nate Craig of Tampa (Fla.) Catholic. Craig is currently committed to play at Auburn.
Metcalf was more than a tough matchup for cornerbacks during the 7-on-7 Championships held in Hoover, Ala. He routinely beat players for touchdowns, and big plays in the passing game.
Oxford will return to the practice field to begin training for the 2014 season opener this coming week. The Chargers open the season at Jackson Prep on Aug. 22.
Another future Rebel who cracked the Top 100 list was North Panola running back Justin Conner, who is ranked No. 66 in the nation.
