Tuesday Morning Update

Spanning the globe on a Tuesday morning …

From AL.com, a look at Auburn’s tempo offense and how it evolves to keep defenses off guard. …

Hugh Freeze likes a little up-tempo offense too. For entertainment purposes only, the early line for Ole Miss and Boise State is good news for the Rebels. Judging by this it sounds like that tempo offense will do good things in the Georgia Dome:

Freshman defensive lineman Davon Godchaux who created a little Signing Day drama by flirting with Ole Miss before choosing LSU, was arrested along with a teammate last week. …

From Gainesville, you can take the coach out of Florida, but you can’t take the Gators out of the coach’s wife. Or something like that. Urban Meyer won a national championship at Florida. He’s now at Ohio State, but his wife Shelley still reads Internet message boards about the Gators. She’s amazed at what she describes as “hatred” toward her husband. …

Mike Markuson was the Rebels’ offensive line coach under Houston Nutt. He’s associate head coach and OL coach at Eastern Illinois with Kim Dameron, who spent some time with the secondary on Nutt’s Ole Miss staff. Markuson’s son Elliott is a tight end at Ole Miss and is glad to see has dad back in college coaching:

From NFL.com, a guy who should know predicts a smooth transition to the NFL for Georgia running back Todd Gurley.

Speaking of Georgia, I was between the hedges for a wedding rehearsal dinner last Friday. That was for the real No. 11, nephew Connor Norman, not Aaron Murray. The ceremony was held at the chapel on campus, a very nice building with historic charm. …

Great to have you back PA. I look forward to your sports news/analysis each day. I am extremely optimistic about the Rebel “D” this season. Coach Freeze has recruited well and a solid defense appears to be coming together. We’ll know in 4 weeks what they bring to the game.

Beeze, thanks for reading and for your contributions to the blog. I think Ole Miss has a chance to be really good on defense. There is a lot of depth and young talent. They need C.J. Johnson to stay healthy and several others to play up to their recruiting coverage.

After reading the report (you posted) from strength coach Paul Jackson, I’m more than excited. Coach Jackson says that he is most impressed with Jeremy Liggins.

Jackson had very positive things to say about the team and particularly about Jeremy Liggins and how his improvement has been from a fitness standpoint.

“If there was an award given out each year”, Jackson said, “Liggins would be at the top of the list. He’s a big man and will always be a big man. He’s 290, but when he walks around with his shirt off, he’s proud. He’s good looking. He may have lost 15 pounds, but it looks like he lost 40.”
