Johnson talks Ole Miss defense

Defensive end C.J. Johnson likes how camp has gone for the defense, particularly with the increased pass rush.

That’s been a point of emphasis after the Rebels were 12th in the league and 96th in America in sacks last year, averaging 1.54 per game.

Much of that had to do with Johnson’s absence. He’s healthy now and happy to have the depth the Rebels have at so many positions, especially on defense.

That doesn’t mean you don’t feel it when teammates go down, and the Rebels have lost Tee Shepard — who Hugh Freeze calls “arguably” the teams best cover corner — and a key special teams performer in Carlos Davis.

Exactly where Issac Gross stands health-wise is pending.
