UCLA transfer offensive lineman Christian Morris has been granted a waiver from the NCAA and will be allowed to play this year, according to Morris’ Twitter feed.
There’s no word on Washington transfer wide receiver Damore’ea Stringfellow, who is also seeking a waiver.
Morris was a four-star recruit out of Memphis when he signed with UCLA.
In addition to being new to the program at Ole Miss he’s had to overcome an Achilles injury sustained in off-season workouts. A redshirt freshman, Morris practiced through all of camp, but at SEC Media Days Hugh Freeze called him a redshirt candidate. That could change if he’s been lights out in camp, but I haven’t seen or heard that he has been.
At the very least Morris adds depth to a position that needs it.
Stringfellow is listed at 6-3, 229 and whenever he’s eligible is considered the kind of play-making receiver that can take attention away from Laquon Treadwell.
Though the receivers as a whole played well against Boise State, depth at the position was a month-long story line in August with Freeze on a couple of occasions calling on someone to step up and produce. Both Cody Core and Quincy Adeboyejo answered that call with touchdown catches in the opener.
