Ole Miss cornerback Senquez Golson is among the national leaders in interceptions, one of four players in the NCAA FBS division who have picked off three passes.
The NCAA ranks its “leaders” by per game average. In that regard the No. 1 player is North Carolina’s Brian Walker who has appeared in one game and has two interceptions.
After the La.-Lafayette game Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze talked about “buy in” and said that Golson’s is higher than it’s been since Freeze took over.
It’s the same theme we were hearing from Cliff Coleman last week. Coleman, last week’s SEC defensive player of the week, also had a PBU against Lafayette.
There has been solid play from a number of guys in the secondary, and Ole Miss has an SEC-leading eight interceptions on the year.
All this from a group that’s missing cornerback Tee Shepard, the juco transfer who was expected to make a significant impact.
All in all it’s been a really good start on the back end.
