Remember this guy? There was a lot of Signing Day drama between LSU and Ole Miss for Plaquemine, La., defensive lineman Davon Godchaux. Now Godchaux is off to a fast start for the Tigers.

Former Ole Miss star Greg Hardy is one of the NFL’s on-going domestic abuse stories right now, and Wednesday he was placed on the league’s exempt list. …

Florida State QB Jameis Winston will sit out the first half of the Clemson game, his punishment for allegedly shouting offensive and vulgar comments about women. The story says Winston will face internal discipline. Pre-dawn running and the like can be effective, but when a pattern persists — and this is not Winston’s first go-round with questionable judgment — nothing speaks to a player like playing time. …

Fresno State turns to its student body in search of a kicker. Four years ago former Fresno coach Pat Hill added 10 or 15 minutes to a deadline game to try a 50-yard field goal in the final seconds of a 55-38 loss in Oxford. Former Ole Miss defensive back Marcus Woodson is on staff at Fresno now. …
