Alabama’s Nick Saban had nothing but praise to offer about about the No. 11 Ole Miss Rebels during his first meeting with the media Monday.
Saban and the No. 1 Crimson Tide visit Oxford this coming Saturday in what will be the biggest test of the season for both teams. Alabama (4-0 overall) had a week off last Saturday, while the Rebels defeated Memphis 24-3.
Alabama is the favorite despite being the visitor at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. Saban had great things to say about quarterback Bo Wallace and a ton of great praise about the way the defense pursued the football. He added that the Rebels were the best defensive team his Crimson Tide had seen all season long.
“They have always been able to move, but the do a lot of stunts and movement up front,” Saban said. “They have some really good pass rush guys and (CJ Johnson) does a great job off the edge and usually plays that off the boundary. They have a lot of experience. I think they have nine guys back on defense, so they do a really good job in executing their scheme without getting technical.”
Saban went on to say that Ole Miss defensive coordinator and his players did a great job of taking away what a team really does best, or like to do.
“They’ve been very, very effective at doing that but it all goes back to their quickness, their stunts and the way they can pressure you,” Saban said. “They do a great job of disguising things in the back end and making it much more difficult for the quarterback.”
When it came to Wallace, Saban felt like having an experienced quarterback.
“He’s done a really, really good job of executing their offensive game plan and he knows what he’s going to do with it,” Saban said. “They do a really good job with their no-huddle pace of play. They do a good job of getting the plays that they want to run. (Laquon) Treadwell is a great receiver for them.”
