Wednesday Morning Update

Spanning the globe on a Wednesday morning …

Check out these highlights of Ole Miss basketball commit JT Escobar. He was a Parade All-American last year, in prep school right now:

You can see more of Escobar on his own website.

Elsewhere in Ole Miss hoops, CBS has Jarvis Summers as its preseason SEC player of the year but picks the Rebels barely in the upper half of the league at No. 7.

Ole Miss climbs to No. 1 in the SI SEC power rankings …

Words of encouragement for Marquis Haynes, this week’s SEC Freshman of the Week, from teammate Robert Nkemdiche. I’m thinking “foolie” is meant as an affectionate term here:

SaturdayDownSouth.com is still pushing Senquez Golson for Heisman consideration. I like it. Through seven games Golson is leading the SEC in passes defended at 1.57 per game. Next is Vernon Hargreaves and Brian Poole, both of Florida, at 1.33. Golson is blowing away the field in interceptions with seven. A bunch of guys behind him have three.

It will be interesting to see the game plan for the Ole Miss corners this week. Hugh Freeze is figuring LSU isn’t going to pass much. That certainly appears the case. Golson’s chances to add to his picks or passes defended this week will be limited. The Rebels will need him to be a sure tackler against LSU, and that’s something he’s done well too. …

Texas A&M was thought to have a great offensive line this season. During the Aggies’ recently struggles the line and most everything else has come under fire. It’s led to this assessment by the offensive coordinator:

Suspension and slump take the stage in a suddenly stagnant Arkansas run game. …

The New York Supreme Court overturned to lower-court rulings and will allow two former ball boys for Syracuse basketball to sue coach Jim Boeheim for slander. …
