Kennedy, Rebels open with exhibition against Delta State Friday

Good stuff here from Andy Kennedy’s preseason basketball presser.

The Rebels traveled to Middle Tennessee State for a controlled scrimmage on Sunday. Kennedy is usually tight-lipped about specifics after this event, and he didn’t gush with praise for any player or any area of the workout.

Jarvis Summers played very little. He’s missed most of three weeks with a high ankle sprain but is full go this week as the Rebels get ready for a Friday night exhibition against Delta State.

Sophomore forward Terry Brutus, who was expected to provide depth last year, still has not been cleared from first an ACL and then ankle issues. That could come any day. Brutus has participated in some limited work but nothing five-on-five.

Kennedy says he’s seen on issues in trying to integrate a large number of transfer into his roster.

He says the group is closer one to 10 than he’s seen in a while, and that’s creating a lot of competition.

What an exciting pre-SEC schedule the hoops team has. Match ups against Creighton, Oregon, W. Kentucky and Dayton. That will help the RPI for sure, if we can win some of those, it could catapult us to a great run. The west is there for the taking and I believe the guys are ready! Can’t wait to see ’em in action.
