Monday Morning Update

Spanning the globe on a Monday morning …

More Florida coach speculation. Matt Hayes of The Sporting News wonders if the time isn’t right for the Gators to land former Spurrier assistant Bob Stoops.

More from Hayes:

We confirmed that guess last week when @RossBjorkAD told us about his “process of engagement.”

The Freeze name is getting more early traction than Dan Mullen. It’s been speculated that Mullen’s relationship with the Florida administration was not great. puts Freeze on the Florida short list but offers no further commentary. mentions Freeze but doesn’t have him in their top three for the job.

A little Twitter reaction here:

Kurt Roper, a David Cutcliffe assistant at Ole Miss and Duke, took a shot with Florida this year. Now he is looking for work.

Andy Staples writes that Roper’s inability to develop the passing game this season contributed to the Gators’ struggles. …

My guess is Hugh Freeze is the coach at Ole Miss next year. Freeze’s name associated with bigger jobs is part of the reality for Ole Miss fans unless Freeze’s salary increases at Ole Miss and he establishes a trend of turning down these jobs. Until then, look for his name to be out there.

Freeze definitely will not be coaching Florida this weekend. He’ll be coaching the Rebels at Arkansas. A difficult place to play already, Fayetteville will be tougher with the Razorbacks’ surge of confidence after a 17-0 win over LSU.

Arkansas will be a little lighter in the wallet after this celebration. The Razorbacks had lost 17 straight in the SEC. After Freeze got his first SEC win in 2012 against Auburn, he got his second in the following conference game against Arkansas in Little Rock. …

Georgia fans’ fears were confirmed Sunday when the school announced that running back Todd Gurley had torn his ACL in the Bulldogs’ 34-7 win over Auburn. …

I saw red and blue cowbells for sale?! Are we supposed to get one and bring it to the Egg Bowl? Arkansas is a scary team, right now. State did what they could to help us out, now we can’t muck it up.

why in the world would Hugh Freeze want to quite a job that he has going for him, and go off down there to Gainesville for a job that is very shaky. He is in the process of rebuilding one of the most famous powerful football programs in USA to past condition… Hugh has it all going his way in Oxford, and please Sir don’t give up this ship for one that is not seaworthy.Life boats on that ship is leaky.
