Monday Morning Update

Spanning the globe on a Monday morning …

Great summation of the Egg Bowl from and why the intensity of the nation’s college football gaze will be just as strong on Mississippi this week.

Continuing that line of thought, this is a story until Hugh Freeze signs an extension or makes a public statement that he will not take the Florida job:

One round of updated bowl projections gives Ole Miss a chance at one of the Big 6 games and has the Rebels in the Cotton Bowl against Baylor. CBS’ Jerry Palm is less impressed with the 9-3 Rebels and has them in the TaxSlayer Bowl, formerly the Gator.

It helped the Rebels to make a nice jump in what I refer to now as the conversational polls. They’re 13 and 14 in the AP and the coaches rankings. Real insight into where the Rebels will go for a bowl game will come Tuesday night in the new release of the College Football Playoff Committee rankings. …

On college football’s rivalry weekend there were near-brawls before Kentucky-Louisville and Virginia-Virginia Tech neither could match up with this one:

Didn’t see just a whole lot of extracurricular during the game. There was of course some. There was an interesting exchanged between CJ Johnson and Dak Prescott during a timeout. Prescott was set to hold for a PAT, and Johnson walked over and talked to him. The body language between both of them indicated that it was not a confrontational conversation, but when I asked Johnson about the conversation he wouldn’t talk about it.

A pre-game word of encouragement from Dexter McCluster:

Ole Miss defensive coordinator Dave Wommack is a finalist for the Broyles Award, which goes to the nation’s top assistant coach. There are many. Wommack is one of five from the SEC alone. …

From Sunday football, a touchdown catch for former Ole Miss wide receiver Donte Moncrief and a hashtag that came to life in the 2012 Egg Bowl:
