Former Clemson player Chad Kelly has officially signed with Ole Miss after a season – a national championship season – as the quarterback at East Mississippi Community College.
Kelly reported on Twitter earlier this morning that he’d send in his paper work.
Ole Miss tight end Evan Engram spoke to us after practice Tuesday and said he’s seen a difference in quarterbacks Ryan Buchanan and DeVante Kincade since Kelly have Ole Miss a verbal commitment.
“Our coaching staff, we recruit the best in the country. That’s no shock to us. It’s just going to better us and better this team, add more depth. You’ve got to have depth in the SEC. That starts a fire under them. I know Chad’s a good quarterback, definitely, because he’s coming here. We wouldn’t be bringing anybody who’s not good enough. That sets a fire under Ryan and DeVante. It’s going to be an interesting battle,” Engram said.
Buchanan and Kincade, both redshirt freshmen this season, have been getting a lot of reps with the ones the past couple of days partly because coaches have been taking it easy with Bo Wallace’s ankle.
Engram says the young guys have already stepped up their game.
“They’re ready to work. Both of them all year have tried to better themselves and learn as much as they can. I know the coaches do a very good job of getting them reps with ones, especially with Bo taking it easy, they’ve been getting a lot more reps with the ones and going against the one defense. I think their improvement has gone through the roof, and they’re ready to go to battle in the spring.”
